Update: Head on over to my new blog location after your stop here: AntonAzucar.com
The reason I have not thrown my opinion into this ring yet is because I just don’t care. And this is not your typical message board themed hatred of “Fuck him if he doesn’t want to come to the U! We’ll kick his ass!” variety. I don’t care where Bryce Brown ends up. If he comes to Miami, I will be extremely happy. He is the #1 recruit out of Rivals. There is no denying his talent. Acquiring talent is good business. However, there is also no denying his lack of mental aptitude; this guy seems like a total headcase.
He is most likely being pulled in multiple directions, receiving input from his “handler,” let alone whatever big bro Arthur has been telling him about Coral Gables. Originally, after the first fasting last winter, it was Miami. Then Oregon was added in the mix. Then USC. Then Tennessee. Now LSU. If he ends up honoring his “commitment” to Miami, and he takes off for his first 20 yard burst through the middle from Big Whip’s newly designed O, we will forget all about this.
Having Bryce Brown commit to The U makes the entire team more competitive. Baby J, Coop, Chamberline, M. James, and Lamar will all have to take it to the next level during spring and summer workouts because of Bryce’s raw talent and unbelievable potential. I don’t want the current RB’s to become complacent about competition.
But then again, we’ve got 3 stud verteran RB’s, 1 sick freshman RB on campus for spring ball, and another sick, sick Dade County RB coming in this summer. Maybe the competition level is scaring away the nations #1 recruit…
Legit Point DenverCane. I would not be surprised if that is the case. All the other teams being mentioned, outside of USC, do not have a definitive name brand going into next year.
Whenever I hear that a prospect has a “handler” it makes me think of OJ Mayo. Is their any possibillity that this kid is dirty or to be more direct asked for money? Maybe this spooked Shannon and made him back off a bit? I have heard that Brown is just as into Tennessee as he is into Oregon.
You guys don’t need Brown but you sure could use him. The Miami running game wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t great either. A talent injection like this would really help. Shannon could throw Brown straight into the fire. The fact that Patrick Nix is no longer in Coral Gables means an instant improvement in the Miami offense.
