Mark Whipple was spotted at Hecht Athletic Center on Friday (no doubt to be fitted for his future national championship ring) and was reportedly offered the OC spot by Miami.
Whipple reportedly has stated he will make his decision by the end of the weekend. All setting up for a great Monday press conference for the U. We’ll have to wait and see.
Whip is going to bring a great, positive, winning attitude to the Canes. He has a great love for winning and he will be a tremendous asset and compliment to Randy Shannon’s staff and program. This is a win win situation and evryone will be impressed so long as everyone supprots him and welcomes him to Miami.
I agree Mike. He is looking more and more like a great choice by Randy, if Whipple does decide to accept. To go from Patrick Nix to this guy will be like trading a batter who only gets on base with a balk for Ichiro with power.
Yes, I played WR for Whipple at Umass from 2001-2003 and his offensive schemes are nightmares for opposing defenses. Imagine this…Coach Brown who just signed to be the Def. Coordinator at Univ. of Maryland VS. Whipple’s high powered offensive at the U. Two coaches from the Umass 1998 National Championship team head to head!!!
That does it! A direct source to the awesomeness of the Whipple. I was still only about 85-90% for him, but now I am officially sold.
J.P., what are his tendencies? Run/Pass ratio? 4th down tendencies? What will he want to do when Miami is up by 2, on the opponent’s 40 yard line, with 2:02 left in the game?
Interesting point re: new Maryland DC.
Here is another interesting tidbit: in 1998, when Whipple won the NC with UMass, he faced a 14-1 Georgia Southern team in the championship game. That Georgia Southern team was coached by Paul Johnson–who is now currently coaching Georgia Tech.
