Bill Young to Oklahoma State?

You want to go back to this Bill? And where's the 30 foot high Jesus statue with the thumbs up?

Damn Pokes are trying to steal Miami’s DC. All of us are worried and frettin’ about whom Randy is going to hire for the OC, and now T Boone and “I’m a Man” Mike Gundy are coming after Young, who just finished his first season with UM. Supposedly, the deal would be for $700k a year, twice what Young is making now. Um, holy fucking shit? And, it’s his alma mater. Did someone just get the deal of their lifetime, and at age 61, in his twilight years? I think so.

But Young took a pay cut to come to Miami last year, and has repeatedly stated he knows what is coming in the next few years, how great this team can be, how high the program can get back to. He’s no fool. This okie ain’t no Coker. My personal opinion is he will stay. No reason for him to have left Kansas last year if he wanted to always be in the judgemental Bible Belt, with all the jesus freaks and their promise rings.

They all sure were Okies. But only one of them sucked. Ain’t nothing wrong with being from OK, I just wouldn’t want to live there.

A reporter from some Tulsa rag has a quote from a source within the OK St. program who says, in response to the $700K figure, “There’s no way.”

According to the same article, their highest paid asst makes $319K. Their DC last yr made $303K.

Now, T. Boone Pickens is on record as saying he wants to see OSU win in his lifetime (hence the huge donation a few years ago), and maybe he made it clear to someone in the OSU Athletic Department to “hit a homerun” with this next DC hire, but this $700K just sounds absurd.

Apparently, the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson spoke with Young this morning and he claims he is “torn” over the decision to stay or go. Young did not say he was offered the job. OSU is not commenting on any offer.

Best case scenario for Canes fans: there is no offer. Some fool on the internet starts the rumor for one reason or another, Bill Young, recognizing the opportunity, muddies the water further when called by the Herald. Tomorrow, Kirby Hocutt calls Bill Young and offers an add’l $50K to stay aboard.

Chester, I agree with you completely about the $700k number. Just seems WAY too high for someone one year removed from Kansas, and not that huge a name. While Young took Kansas’ D to new heights two years ago, this isn’t Will Muschamp or even Charlie Strong we’re talking about here.

Great move by Young if you’re right, and he has every reason to do it.
