As those who know me personally, the safety position is by and large my favorite to follow in the field, college or pro. Watching Ed Reed 2-0 playing 15 yards off the ball in the OB from a perfect angle high up in the student section was pure bliss.
Taylor Mays, USC all-everything free safety, is coming back to school next year. A guaranteed first round pick, the reason I am mentioning this here is a quote Mays gave today. At 6′3” and 230+ lbs, with a 4.25 40 time, I have actually been a fan of Mays’ since his recruitment a few years back. Likening him to my favorite Cane of all time, Mr. 3% Bodyfat himself, Sean Taylor. Same build, same hard-hitting demeanor. So what should this Taylor from USC mention today in his coming back speech?
“He’s been my favorite player (Sean Taylor),” Mays said. “I look up to Ronnie Lott, too. That’s what’s special being in this program, living up to the safeties here.”
Preach on Taylor Mays. The U reaches all the way to LA, and this is why, no matter what, Miami will always be back.
