So. That was fun. In the history books in the worst possible way, for all of time. I felt prior to this game this season would mirror 2000, when Henson, A-Train, and Terrell were back strong, but no defense, and they finished 9-3. Never thought they’d lose one of their three this year to 1-AA. There is no way anyone can convince me App State has more talent than Michigan. They were simply outcoached, in every way, shape, and form. Which leads me to the main point of the post. Lloyd Carr needed to be gone prior to 2005. Last year was a team on a mission, and even that ended up failing miserably. 11-2? Great. The Big Ten has been so down for awhile that Michigan better win 10 games a year. Last year they actually did it. Hooray. Rumors abound that Lloyd was in his final season regardless of what happened this year. And that is a shame. Because nothing would have shown more conviction than to fire his ass tomorrow. Show that Michigan will not put up with this bullshit. This lackluster effort against inferior opponents. Inability to play great against bad teams. Never do you see OSU lose to a “cupcake” team. OSU can replace an entire defense and get to the title game. Why? Because their coach gets the most out of his players. And I fucking hate OSU. But it’s the truth.
The worst part of all of this is that Lloyd will retire at years end. But we, as Michigan fans, will be subject to a “Michigan Man” replacement. Someone like Debord, or possibly English, who will be just as conservative, just as prone to fuck things up when the expectations are high. So, I am definitely looking forward to 5 years worth of Ron Zook type football being played. A bunch of 8-9 win seasons, with no threat of losing a job. Hopefully, after those 5 years of mediocrity are up, the Michigan brass will finally look outside the family to get a new coach. What’s wrong with hiring a coach who aspires to be in the NFL? ) Why won’t Michigan go try and raid some other powerhouse program of their coach (Urban Meyer, Stoops) Nope. They will go look for another Michigan man, willing and ready to sacrifice for the good of the school, estatic to set the goal for season to merely win the Big Ten. Hence, the happiness with 3 loss seasons. Hey, if we get annihilated in the Rose Bowl, it still means we made it. Right?
